Deep in the suburbs of Duval county, Florida, lies what was once a bustling Native American tribe called the Timucaun. Though the tribe is now gone, the beautiful place they called home is still thriving.  Majority of people in the Jacksonville area are unaware they are in the midst of this 46,000-acre land that includes historic monuments, trails and wetlands that sit unchanged from the time of the Timucuan Native Americans. Now used today as a historic monument to the natives, it’s also an inspiring place to shut out the crippling thing called society.
Those days when you’re close to falling apart, your phone wont stop ringing with calls that are pointless, and when you feel that your passion has been lost. This preserve and its breathtaking beauty will restore your hope. There are a lot of things that people don’t understand about the tranquil effects of nature, that it has the power to turn any day around and that it can show you that no matter what is happening, life still flourishes. This is one of those places that can fix anything.

One out of 100 things that make these trails special in my heart are the scattered platforms in the middle of nowhere. Miles deep into the trails, these platforms raise you up into the sky and shows you what the world looked like back in the days of the Timucuan. For as far as the eyes can see, there is nothing but grass wetlands and blue skies. It used to be my hangout spot in my younger days when I wanted a few silent moments to myself, and it was definitely my saving grace during certain moments of my life.

It’ll definitely make you appreciate how small you are in this ever-changing world. But, when you have lonely days or any kind of day, you can always count on those views from the platform and the calm feeling of relaxation to be the one thing that is never going to change.
